The pet shops aren't the real problems, it's the puppy mills they come from. The pet shops do all support the puppy mills though. Puppies should come from reputable breeders, who show the parents to be sure they are a good example of the breed or in homes of caring breeders who love each puppy, give them time to run about the house & in the grass & socialize them with other dogs/puppies & humans.

That is ideal pp but most people dont reasearch things before they buy. Their is a lot of demand for those mills because the cost is cheap oppose to a breeder that worms em vaccinates them and weens them properly. The laws of supply and demand. For that i am pro regulation on the commercial dog cat market.

Many years ago I had a LFS that QT'd all livestock at least one month. But that was over 50 years ago. I have not seen another since. I have my doubts that most LFS could survive if they had to QT all livestock - few enough survive anyway.

I do agree w/PP that DPs do not need hard food. I added snails during the dark cycle to provide hunting for them as much or more than as food. But the variety does not hurt. To date they are the only puffer I have ben able to say that about.
