Is my Stars and Stripes puffer male or female?

Post by joannefrost »

I have had my Stars and Stripes puffer for 2 days and he is only about 3 inches at the moment. I just wondered if there was any way of telling if "he" is male or female?

Most puffers are impossible to sex. We will have to get one of the experts to chime in on your specific puffer however to possibly make a valid determination.
WARNING: Puffers are mischievous little blimps with enchanting powers. You may not be content with having just one.

[welcome]
Only the puffer knows & it's not talking. Pick a sex & go with it. What size tank is s/he in?

Yea it's unlikely you will ever know. Like pp said guess lol. Which is your preference
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

It's called mr puff so I guess he can be a boy :D he's in a 100 gallon at the minute, but I know I may have to get a bigger tank for him in the future. He just keeps begging for food constantly! The man at the aquatics store I bought him from told me to feed him twice a day will krill, brine shrimp or mystis which I have been doing but he just keeps wanting more! I'm not giving in to him though! Don't wanna overfeed him!!

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

He probably isn't getting enough nutrition from those smaller foods: library/feeding/feeding-your-puffers/

Thanks, i told the "marine specialist" in the store that I thought he needed something with a shell for his teeth but he said not yet, then I've read loads online saying he should have cockles and things like that, I'll go see what I can get him tomorrow :D
