What puffers can I keep??

Post by Topheredward »

I recently bought this tank
http://www.petco.com/product/117467/Aqu ... shFC_Tanks
(The 8 gallon version) intending on getting a betta. But after some research I became very interested in puffers!! Are there any that I could keep in this tank? :-D

You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Get a 30g and you can do a couple figure eight puffers or a single green spotted puffer.
WARNING: Puffers are mischievous little blimps with enchanting powers. You may not be content with having just one.

I believe 15gallons is the minimum for one Figure 8, more is always better of course.

Info on Figure 8s from the library.

What about the Red Tail? Would I be able to keep one of those in a tank that size if it were heavily planted?

There's several species of red-tail puffers. Which one were you thinking of??

I believe C. Irrubesco? The more mild tempered one.

Rather small but a little larger than the dwarfs.

our C. Irrubesco is in an approx 15 gallon tank and he's only an inch and a bit, 3 cm.. and we are planning to get him a bigger tank.

He's currently sharing with an otto catfish.

Please bear in mind an 8g tank will not hold anywhere near 8g of water once decorated. Realistically you could only house 1 dp, certainly nothing bigger.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
