Help! Getting my first puffers need advice!

The tank I got came with a starter kit with liquid to put in to cycle it.
I'm going to let it sit for a week or so and test the water and if it's good that's when I'll get my puffers.

It is unlikely that the product will work. What is it? Even if it is one that works it needs to be put in at the same time as the fish.

There's no benefit to leaving your tank empty. As long as the water has been conditioned and the temperature is stable you're good to go.

i used hardy small fish when i cycled my tank, no1s mentioned usin fish yet, ie goldfish

Using fish to cycle a tank is nothing less than animal cruelty, we don't do that here

If you want to cycle the tank faster try a bio-supplements for aquaria, I've had good results with nightout and startsmart

I've never heard of those products. Looked them up & couldn't even find one iota of info on Nightout & found this on Startsmart: For Routine Maintenance - Why would you heed to keep adding "live" bacteria to an established tank?
Solve Algae Problems - How does nitrifying bacteria get rid of algae?
Stick with Safestart or Dr Tim's one & Only. Everything else is dead bacteria in a bottle.

wooow, sorry guys... too late i used 'starter' fish but wont be doing again now i read that topic!!
never realised until i read that!!
