Fahaka wasn't interested in hard food

Just tried my fahaka on a langoustine leg and he struggled to get through the shell really. i want to get him on to harder food after listening to people on here to keep his teeth down. What can i try? hes 6"

Crush it a little b4 feeding. So it can taste a little of meat to get it more interested.

Or sometimes they are just too pampered. Keep trying. In no time they will understand they have to "work" for its own food.

Ok thanks I will try crushing up a little. He did have a go for a while got frustrated then left it alone.

Try feeding him live crayfish and red clawed crabs. Hard shells but easy for Fahakas to eat through. And mine with leave nothin behind. Shell, meat, and claws get ate.

try some cockles in the shell which are readily available in the uk .....really good for grinding your puffs beak down

Young puffers do require appropriately sized/hardness items. Almost all puffer absolutely require hard foods to wear down their constantly growing fused incisor plates. Bur the scale of size and hardness has to vary from youth to maturity.

As already mentioned in the above posts, per-crushing marginal food items does help smaller puffers develop their taste and ability for slightly over-sized or too strong for small puffer items.

The only crayfish type thing I have found for sale are blue lobsters and they cost £££s, try catching them in rivers and quarantine them for a while

Yh I was hoping to get a few signal crays out of the river. How long should I keep them before I can feed them to him? You had any luck breeding signal crays?

You will want to QT for at the very least four weeks (in my opinion. Some people only do 2 weeks), but I personally think two months is better.

yep plenty of signal crayfish about in our waterways ...please remember our native white clawed crayfish is protected by law due to rapidly declining numbers because of the invasive signal cray gradually wiping them out ...........

I cannot say too much, head to you local river with a sinking net box with a dead fish strapped to it. Remember to pick out the endangered ones.......

I wish I could do that, sounds fun and its free food for your puffer lucky. Wildlife around here is to polluted to feed to my puffer.

I know it's a late reply. I'm going out shopping for a reload on his food. I can go to supermarket or fish mongers. I will pick up some cockles with shells on. I have had crevettes that are raw before. Any thing else I can add to my list?
