hey guys i am new to this forum and im here because recently i bought home a puffer which i have no idea about now i have been reffered here by a friend from a different forum who
swears you guys can help me identify it i wanna know everything there is to know about this guy
the background is i went to the fish shop seeking dwarf puffer the guy there said they were out of stock and said he had a different puffer and said he would be fine in a 15 g as they kept him in a 10 g for weeks now i first thought it to be a figure 8 and bought it but now i have doubts pls help me with this...

He looks like a Tetraodon fluviatilis (Ceylon Puffer). They are high brakish to full marine water

+1 to above. And that's the best looking and healthiest one I have seen so far coming straight from a lfs!! But I m afraid U may not be prepared for it though..

ok so if it is a ceylon can you tell me other details about it i googled and its a bit confusing is he toxic ?? does he leech the toxin in the water of the tank?? i have got three huge scars on my wrist if i clean the tank will it effect me in a bad way ??
on further notes :
the guy eats up the pellets i stock for my oscars without much hassle i'm looking around for pond snails in the meantime what else will he eat??

ok i just read the part about me being not ready for him yet well i would like to know what preparation i need to make i have not kept brackish tank before but i'm in love with this guy he has so much life and i would hate to give him back
and i think i know why he is so healthy i guess because he's a native i live in india

Mussels cockles shrimp to name a few foods. He will not leach toxins into the tank, your arm will be fine. Someone will post up some informative brackish water articles soon. He will need a 40 gallon tank all to himself as he will get. Quite large

Puffer toxins are tissue-bound, They do no leach out from the fish. Wild-caught puffers can vary from highly toxic to harmless unpredictably. Their toxin is dangerous only if consumed. They do not create the toxins. Those are eaten from their environment and stored for self-protection. Puffers in captivity eventually lose their toxin. So long as you do not eat the fish or handle it with bare hands (which you should do with any captive fish anyway) and then suck on your fingers you are safe from their toxins.

Tell us about his set up: Tank size, substrate, tank mates, is it cycled???

ok i do not plan on handling my fish anyways but i wanna know if it's skin is poisonous because i will be syphoning his gravel and so my hand with the wound on it will be in his tanbk water for quite some time i wanna know if that would adveresely affect me??
his tank setup:
it is a 15 g fully cycled tank that has been running for over 18 monthswith different fishes in it it has quartz sand it it maybe half inch layer and a pvc pipe that i put in as a hiding place for the fish it had a tiger barb that was missing an eye but removed it now
ive added a little bit of salt in the tank
the puffer is 3 inches and at present it very active n lively
one more question i have is the fish afraid of light i have an 8w flourscent tubelight in the tank and the guy is scared of it is it normal??
and in the pics i have posted is the puffer of normal size or is it puffed up because ive read puffing up is not good for the fish if it is puffed up what can i do to calm it down??/

Fish will get accustomed to the light. Keep the light schedule constant. The pic shows a normal puffer. You will definitely know when a puffer is full or puffed up - its pretty obviously. Look on youtube to see some videos of a puffed up puffer.

Your wounds will not be affected. Good idea to keep your wound away from tank water in general.
