Naughty puffers!!!!!!

Post by Donna_G »

I received my first puffer bite today, right on my elbow and wow it hurt  I haven't trusted my Figure Eights since the first water change, when my fingers became of huge interest to them but I got distracted today and in for the kill they went. Then I noticed one of my Apple snails right next to my Congo puffer, had a closer look and the apple snail was on top of him over his mouth. As my Congo was breathing so the snail was going up and down lol, not sure if the snails alive as I think he took a bite out of it :( I had to run downstairs for my phone so the snail had shifted slightly but here's a pic

And the last thing is my Figure Eight tanks plants look like someone has taken a mini hole punch and massacred them!!!!
As the title says Naughty puffers

Eeeek, I haven't been bit by my F8 before. She's only about 1.5 inches though. How large is yours? Did the bite leave a mark?

Love the pic of your Congo. He looks so innocent, like "What? I can't help it if the snail CRAWLED INTO MY MOUTH, can I?"
Yo ho, yo ho, a puffer's life for me.

I never been bit by a puffer before but I have gotten a nip out of my figure by the very 1st little Bursa Triggerfish though. And it drew blood....lol

Your apple snail looks closed up in the pic from way that it looks. That reminds me, I need to get a mystery snail for my Congo tank. Not sure he will attack it since he kills everything that goes into his tank though....lol. But it's a chance I gotta take.

i added two mystery snails to "olivias" tank (congo puffer)
they were healthy snails that i had for many months in another tank
within a week, they retreated into their shells
that was that.............
to this day, i wonder if she took chunks out of them (though i never observed any behavior of any kind toward them at all)
or? :?

@ Pufftastic my puffers are about the same size as yours, there was a little red mark where he'd got me. I'm just glad he didn't hang on cos I flung my arm out quite quick, I could of ended up with the first flying F8 lol. My Congo has been bugged by the snails since I put them in the tank, it was quite funny watching him try to blend in while a snails trying to climb over his back. I suppose it was pay back time

@ FADE2BLACK_1973 Yeah the snails closed up but the black bit underneath which protects them has a good chunk missing, am going to see if he moves tomorrow.
I put the 2 snails in there cos if it worked ok, I was hoping to add more so they would breed. Oh well lol

Ouchie! I am going to be super paranoid when I get my F8. It took me several water changes to not be afraid of my DPs!

Was in a hurry to get out yesterday (dog had a vet appointment) so I plonked a cube of frozen bloodworm straight into the feeding cone in my fig 8s tank so it could defrost in the tank. Problem was, I missed. Nearly got bitten trying to grab it out before he managed to eat it whilst it was still frozen! Can't say I fancy a puffer bite, so I'm usually super careful. I have a grabby stick for mucking around in mushroom's tank, seen the teeth on that thing!! lol
