Black River Puffer Help

I went to my LFS and bought a black river puffer today. I did not research this puffer at all before I purchased it but the LFS employees said they are safe to keep with crayfish. I have a 3 inch blue lobster (crayfish) and I have not yet put the puffer in. Does anyone know if this puffer would not eat the crayfish? I love my crayfish so I may have to take the puffer back. Thanks.

The puffer will defenatly eat your crayfish. If you love your crayfish you need to keep it in a seperate tank than the puffer.

Just out of curiosity can you get a pic of the puffer and post it here so it can be ID'd?. I've never heard of a black puffer

Well, that's what the LFS had it labeled as, a black river puffer. I saw somewhere it is also called a dragon puffer or humpback puffer. It has red eyes and a dark greenish body with black spots on the back. They said it was a "nice" puffer.

Your lfs is tryin to tell you that if you throw a yummy piece of meat into a lion den, they wont eat it....LOL

Most puffer's main diet is mainly crustaceans.

I think you have a M. Turgidus. The last few "black river puffer" I have seen from postings have been ID as the M. Turgidus. Turgs also have dark green body with black spots. Send your puffer back to the store if you want to keep your crayfish.

In my area, Palembangs are always labeled as Black River Puffers.
