Well I don't have a lot of confidence in vinegar, but with muriatic acid it foams like crazy. With vinegar it shound foam as well as any other calcareous rock or gravel.
I use and push aragonite as it is a bit more soluble than crushed coral, which in turn is more soluble than dolomite. That boils down to its reacting to smaller drops in pH/KH than the others.
