F8 Setup

Post by fish 4 life »

hey so i have a 20 gallon tank with sand substrate and a ton of plants and rocks. For filtration i am using a Aqua clear power filter(HOB) that is used for 40-70 gallon tanks. Is this a good filter?? Also Should i get one or two F8 puffers?? If i get one could i add any other types of fish??

Thanks so much!! :D

P.S. thank you Pufferpunk for telling me about this website!!!!

Just 1 f8. The plants won't survive the brackish water I'm afraid. You could add a couple of bumblebee gobies if you wish
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

they are very very messy eaters themselves and its recommended 15g per figure 8 and even then they can be very aggressive depending on your puffer.

Yes purely due to bio-load.

Also, if you have one then it is easier to feed it properly and it will live a longer healthier life.

it'll serve for its purpose, although frequent water changes will still be necessary unless tank is already cycled, even if it is 25 % weekly changes recommended for how messy the puffers eat.

Yes, it's a good filter :) Do you know what it's flow rate is? Typically you want to aim for 6-10x turnover per hour. So you'd want a filter that flows at least 120gal/hour.

Sometimes it's quite slow and with others it is quick. Sometimes it's quick up until a point (less than full length) and slows down greatly. So, in other words, I can't give you a decent answer

Put filter floss in your filter and turn the flow down. Toss the floss regularly.

I use pillow stuffing from a sewing store. Did you find my F8 article?
