F8 Puffers, interesting set-up

You do have a point RTR however I am going to be doing this for the long run, a 15 gal was all i could afford at the time and being military i was moved around a lot but now that things have settled down i'm happy to get back into having an aquarium and now have the time/space/money to back it up which is why i'm upgrading to the 55gal (well in another month). I'll always take suggestions but i'll never knock someone for doing something that works.

And as far as filters go, i've loved the Penguin filters and they have always worked well but if someone has another suggestion for them or a way to modify/improve on them i'm open to suggestions. In another post someone mentioned "floss". any other suggestions please let me know.

Any filter where you can choose your media is good, my choice is eheim but most budgets may not allow for these expensive bits of kit. Sun sun are another favourite around here, you will likely need to replace the rubbish push together pipes to keep it airtight, I have one and overall for the money it is good. Filter floss is very good at polishing water but clogs very fast and should be changed weekly, I would not operate without floss it catches the tiniest bits of detritus

Modify the Penguin/Marineland Filter to use Fluval or Aquaclear media blocks (sponges) and it works very well and you don't have to go thru those disposable cartridges so much anymore. Plus you can place them around the intake as a prefilter system. Many knock the Bio wheel and suggest to trash it, especially if the filter is used on a saltwater tank, but I am still using mine at the moment.
