Re: Puffer Stocking
My Figure 8's are 5 years old and counting so cannot be classed as total failure yet.

Nope!
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Thanks everyone for your input, much appreciated. Based on your advice I will be having the F8 as the sole inhabitant of the tank. I am happy having just one fish in the tank, my motivation for planning to put a couple of BBG in was to act as a bit of extra stimuli along with the decor.
Thanks again for the friendly welcome.

Re: Puffer Stocking
Personally, I love feeding a tank with only one fish in it. There's so little waste and it's easy to make sure that fish is getting the right amount of food. That being said, with your tank size I'd be tempted to add in some BBGs simply because I think they're cute and I've never had them before
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: Puffer Stocking
My F8 Luau is the only little guy in his tank and it's a 36 gallon b.f. I am afraid that he would pick on anything else that I put in there. I have tons of decor though, and he's very entertaining to watch exploring everything.
After going through growing pains of having him in a 20, to now in a 36, I am a very firm believer in what RTR says: go 2x the min req. After seeing him in the 20, to now observing him in the 36, he's much more active and more personable still (not to mention I would have saved a ton of money). Other than the occasional ghost shrimp and my zebra nerite snails (he got bored of looking at them after a while), he's the king of the tank, and as long as he seems to me that he's ridiculously happy, I wouldn't change a thing haha. HTH
Welcome btw, and can't wait to see pics of the new addition!
