My 55G Goldfish Aquarium

Post by sgtmyers88 »

Here is my goldfish aquarium that has been running for a while stocked with a few young fancy goldfish. It is another 55 gallon aquarium with a beautiful wood trim and stand. There are two Penguin 330 power filters running with two UG filter powerheads for maximum filtration that brings ultra clean and pure water conditions that make the fish appear as if they were floating in air! :D

Gorgeous tank! Too bad you're going to have to break it down when you upgrade.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

There are 5 fancies all less than 3 inches right now. I also have 4 Emerald Corys, 3 Rosy Red Minnows, and a Pleco from the previous owner. As I stated above I have 3 filtration systems running in this tank along with some live plants.

This is the tank:
(sorry for the quality as some of these pics I have been posting have mostly been from my cell phone)

5 goldies with tankmates in a 55g? That's less than 10g water each, you must need to do 90% wc daily to keep water in check
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

That tank is set for stunting. More water volume per fish is sorely needed.

The pleco needs to be re-homed, they are very dangerous to GF, especially fancies.

The fish look very small right now. I do hope he will upgrade in time.

I thought with fancies it was 10 gallons per fish and 30 gallons for Commons and Koi? I had always done it that way with no huge problems but I never exceeded 3-4 fish.

Well either way I have been looking at and seriously considering a 155 gallon complete setup for $400 on Craigslist. It is 48"Lx30"Wx36"H. I drove down and looked at it today as the seller still has it set up and running with water and the seller is also throwing in both a 20 and 40 gallon tank for free with the purchase. I am just debating on whether to use the 155 (If I buy) for my GSP's or for my goldfish.

Considering that fancies can get up to 10" (excluding tail), and that they are thick-bodied, and that produce a ton of waste relative to other fish their size... No, ten gallons each is not NEARLY enough! And commons are really only fit for ponds, since they can reach lengths measured in feet instead of inches, so 30g each for them is not enough, either.

Even at 10g per fancy, you'd still be overstocked, though.

The 155 would be fantastic for your goldfish. They'd love it and they'll be much healthier and live their full lifespans - 15+ years.

LOL well I first have to make sure my roommate wont kill me. We had to relocate some stuff to properly accommodate the two 55's I already have setup here.
