I think I understand these products a bit better now. They aren't useless and do work, but not in the wya we really need them to.
They are expensive and ineffective bandaid solutions that never solve the real problem and only make things worse by possibly preventing the real bacteria from taking hold, or simply decaying and adding to the polution problem.

The non-establishing products are complicated by the fact that many are not dated, so the buyer has no clue when the product was packaged. They may add massive dead bioloads with the product which supposedly was to help the situation - sort of kicking any fish present when they are already down.

I think it's almost like the "API Stress Zyme" which contain 100+ millions of bacteria per teaspoon of the liquid.
- I tried Stress Zyme before and I think it's quite good. It work best with BIO Wheel.. without one will also work. It just speed up the process and get your tank fully cycled right away. The API Stress Zyme work with both FW or SW. So far I haven't got any problem using it.. I follow the instruction for how many "ml" to per 10 gallon then I wait for a while, then drop my fish in and they happilly swim in the new setup tank.. already tried with few new setup tanks. So far So good. I just bought the BigAls Brand to try out.. not sure how good it's.. Smell and same color liquid as the one from API.

I have to disagree with the product you have mentioned BP. I tried it whilst fishless cyling on afew tanks. The ones that were seeded with established gravel, squeezing etc took around 10 days to cycle. I gave up with the tanks that contained zyme and cycle after 4 weeks.They didn't look like they were ever going to cycle.
I have the leaflet that goes with the bactonettes from an LFS that sells it. The guy talked me through the principle and although it sounded good it was clear he didn't fully understand the process.
At £5 a shot, its a fair gamble to take. As RTR would say NIMFT LoL

i used to work for such a company and they can hold live, inactive bacteria onto a jelly like matrix in a special solution until they come into contact with the water, which is when they become active. a downfall is they cannot reproduce so they are only active for as long as they live by which time the filter should have harboured a decent amount of live bacteria within its own media.
