36 gal bowed tank. what puffer?

Hello,
I am new to this forum and puffer fish. i have had a 75 gal tank for 5 yrs now with a good variety of freshwater fish and just recently bought a 36 gal bowed tank for my bedroom. i love the look of puffer and have been doing some research on them. i was considering getting a south american puffer but i heard they need to be in groups and im not sure if my tank is big enough? Or would it just be better to man up and try a brackish water tank with some f 8's or something. i would like a puffer larger then dp's and preferably one that is more active. any suggestions would be great!

The f8 takes a low-end brackish setup, the GSP takes a high-end brackish to full marine setup, so it's a question of what you want to do with the tank long-term. As to the number of f8 you can have, another member can answer that better than me.

Ya you can have 2 f8's in your 36g easily with 6g left extra for cushion. They require 15g of water each and as stated before are low end brackish that don't need a s.g of higher than 1.005

Actually, it's 15g for the 1st F8 & 10g more for each extra.

Ooo I stand corrected. That actually really makes me want to pick up some f8's....

I really want to pick up a 40g long now and get 3.

Yea 2 f8 and a couple of bumblebee gobies would be cool in there. Or 1 f8 and several bbg's.

If you go for F8's it'll be a lot cheaper to run your tank as you're using less salt every WC
