Taken with my cell phone. Hope to get a camera soon. Mrs. WYite just finished cosmetology school and starts her new job on Monday, so I'm no longer the sole income in the household. Yay! Anyways, then I hope to get some good pics. In the meantime, I was itchin' to show some of my fish off here and at my home site.

Think they didn't turn out half bad.

Had him almost two years now and I enjoy him. I almost didn't get him. The first time I saw 'em at the shop (Cheyenne doesn't have an LFS, the closest shop is 50 miles away in Fort Collins, CO), I had to seriously resist gettin' one as an impulse purchase. My 12 year old daughter loves puffers, and she was all over me to buy one of these guys. My tanks aren't completely stocked, so I have plenty of tanks to keep an impulse fish in and I do occasionally make an educated impulse cichlid purchase if I can at least narrow the fish down to genus and/or type (i.e. mbuna, Tanganyikan lamp, West African dwarf, SA dwarf, etc.), and if I know I have the space. But I knew absolutely nothin' about this species and didn't wanna end up with an 8" or 10" brackish, fish-nippin' machine that I wasn't prepped for. Didn't even know if they were brackish or fresh, and since I only have one brackish tank with GSPs, I knew I'd have a problem if they turned out to be brackish. The shop owner didn't know anything 'bout 'em, so I held off until I did my research. All I could see comin' outta buyin' him then and there was bad-case scenarios that required me to alter one or more of my tank set-ups to accomodate him. As it was, all would have been good and he fit right in to his current home, but been doin' this too long to justify giving in to that severe of an impulse. Anyways, a month later when I got back down to the shop he was the last one left.

He's in a 55 gallon with three zebra loaches, a glassfish, seven giant danios and seven Denison's barbs. It's planted with Cryptocoryne wendtii red and has a bunch of driftwood for cover. He occasionally nips at one of the danios or barbs as they flash by him, but they move too fast and he has yet to get one. This is one of only a half dozen of my tanks I have no intention of puttin' cichlids in. Of those, three of 'em currently have puffers and a fourth will end up with some DPs. The 180 gallon that's goin' in the family room as a show tank may or may not end up with a puffer.

But that is another story...

How big is you modestus? Your puff looks great. I couldn't get any pics of my modestus because he was a fast little devil.

I'd guesstimate he's 'bout 3.5". I've tried before to get pics and he wouldn't sit still long enough. But the last few weeks he's taken to that spot under the driftwood when he's not roamin', and he's stayed still long enough to get some. The zebra loaches like to play in and around that piece of wood as it has several holes through it were the pith of the wood rotted out, and he ignores them, but he doesn't let the glassfish anywhere near it.

Looks like we have somethin' else in common, Terrance. Whaddya think of Tarvaris Jackson? Think the jury's still out myself.
