Breeding cherry shrimp

Post by suvattii2012 »

I was thinking about breeding some guppies in the same tank as my arrowhead but after further thinking they would be to messy and the 25 gallon is not big enough.

I have just made a tank divider and fitted it after doing my water changes and cleaning the tank, it looks pretty good lol. I have cut about 10 gallons of for the cherry shrimps and 15 gallons for my suvattii. Im going to just keep one heater and the big filter in the arrowheads half with a small 15 gallon filter in the shrimps area. I have put a orniment cave and a fair few plants and moss balls were the shrimp will be.

Anyway i have 10 cherry shrimp arriving in morning to put in and was wondering if anybody has any tips to help breed some cherrys. How many shrimp is max i should keep in the 10 gallons? Im going to feed the shrimp frozen bloodworm and good quality flake. When there numbers are too many i will introduce them to there next door neighbor.

They sound easy to keep in a stable tank and pretty hardy but always worth asking for tips.

:D

You can also add some slow boiled spinach & chard to provide cherries with carotenes and other goods.
Just a little.

Their diet needs to be supplemented with lots of veggie matter and various minerals. I'd add some blanched veggies or vegetable/spirulina foods (like those made by kensfish.com) and some shrimp-specific food. My shrimp really enjoy New Life Spectrum for crustaceans and Hikari Shrimp Cuisine.

Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Thanks. I always have lettuce, carrots, spinich, cucumber, rocket, frozen peas + more, just because we eat them :D I have loads of fish flake and quite a few bags of bloodworm pellets. I will give the new life spectrum for crustaceans and hikari shrimp cuisine a try if it's not to pricey.

They're not. And shrimp-specific food is pretty important! It contains the minerals they need for successful molting.

How far will just 10g go with 10 small cherrys? There 2-3 weeks old.

Pretty far, since you don't need to use it exclusively. It's a couple of tablespoons.

Hey LGP, I have a problem with 8 of the shrimp. Two of the larger shrimp are swimming around eating and such. But the smaller 8 shrimp are just hiding under and around the five moss balls all the time. Why are they unhappy? There is a snail in there but nothing that could eat them. Can they sence the arrowhead through the divider?
