Post by volcomlifer »

Duboisi looks like a turd. At least the CR is stunning, grows bit & has lots of personality.

Many fahakas are sold as cross rivers for big bucks. They have very similar colouring when young. Since the fish is about 10" there's a higher chance that you'll actually get what you pay for.

As for price, they're only worth what you're willing to pay ;) There aren't any set prices on these guys since they're rarely seen.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

There are certainly more rare puffers than these two species, some that have only been seen in captivity one or two times in the last 6 decades... and of course quite a number of species which have never been kept in captivity.

I actually like the T. duboisi, body shape of a T. miurus, but nicer coloration (in my opinion). For T. pustulatus lots of threads exist here. Expect the ones with spots to develop lines with age (I'm not aware of any which kept the spots).
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

wish i could find those super rare puffers, but im sure if they are that rare not likely id get my hands on one, or even see one for that matter lol....... well thanks for all your help, hopefully the cross comes in before the duboisi, with my OCD id probably end up getting it and not have enough for the cross when it does arrive lol.... but in the end just a waiting game, gotta see if he can pull it off, he got one of each in before so i have faith

Those very rare puffers almost never came into captivity the "usual" way (catcher, exporter, wholesale, lfs), but were imported or caught by interested individuals or public aquariums.

This can also change with the years. In the 80s T. schoutedeni was available while a lot of the freshwater puffers you can get nowadays were never seen. Since the congo wars and the problems the years before them practically 0 T. schoutedeni have occured in the trade while everyone can get a dwarf puffer.

It all depends on what it's worth to you. If you are a millionaire, then what's $1200 on a fish? I would make sure to get a pic of the EXACT puffer he will be sending you, with a BIG guarantee on it. Post the pic here.

ohh yeah im not giving him a dime till i see the actual one in person, if hes expecting me to put a downpayment or pay in advance then hes smoking crack lmao...... and no im no millionair, far from it in fact lol just have an OCD for fish, when i get into a different fish i gotta have it and will pay whatever i have too...... like if and when this fish comes in then ill prolly get rid of one of my bikes since i no longer ride to get it, plus its an excuse for me to put more money away for my daughter...... i put 100 bucks from everycheck into a an account for her college, but i also promised her and my self for every penny i spend on something i want ill put the exact amount away for her for something she wants, so this would be an extra 1200 for her later on lol
