dissolved oxygen

Post by thenewpufferintown »

without using a HOB power filter, is there anything necessary to oxygenate the water in a small sw tank? It has live rock and a powerhead for circulation, but without an airstone or hob filter, there is no surface agitation.

by aiming it at the surface you will get gas exchange, TBH all you need is the surface to ripple. do you not skim?

surface agitation is #1 without a skimmer. The flow will redirect and create a current around the rock. Add something near the rock and in back to test the dead spots. Find those spots and re position the powerhead but with keeping surface agitation.
