moving a tank?

I want to move my 60gal across my room. What is the best way to tackle this? Should i drain it halfway and just lift and move? or just empty it all the way?

remove everything from the tank . Relocate the tank , then give everything a good clean before you put it back in . And lastly pop your fish back in !

I would do:

1. Drain 3/4 of water ( nice W/C at this same time )
2. Remove all decor.
3. If your fish are too big for 3/4 of water in your tank, I would fish them out.
4. 60gal. tank is heavy help in needed.

Remove all filters, we would want too trip over the cable now, would we.

I have been told, that any amount of water splashing back &forth, can cause too much pressure against the glass & possibly cause it to crack. Get a 30g Brute garbage can, rinse well & fill it with your tank water. Remove all decor. Drain 5g into a bucket & put the fish in there, along with some plants, to feel comfortable (cover it, so they don't jump). Drain the rest of the water. You'll need a pump to get the water from the bucket, back ro the tank. I borrowed one from my LFS for this. It will be no different than the 50% weekly WC you are already doing. You have been, right?

right now im doing 10gal. going to get a big 40gal drum to start doing bigger water changes. planning to get a powerhead. this weekened

What are the dimensions of your tank? In the other thread your tank looks like a 46g. The only bowfronts that I know of go from 46g to 72g and from 36" to 48" inches wide. PP's idea to get a Brute trash can will serve as a brackish mixing vessel afterwards...Because either the F8 or GSPs will need to be in salt eventually and you'll get to remove those poor goldfish during the move, before the salinity is changed. Also do you have any plans on what to do with the GSPs and F8 when it's time for the GSPs to go to higher salinity?

Also get some furniture slides to put under the tank and stand to move the tank once drained. You know, the plastic ones for carpet or the felt ones for hard floors. http://www.amazon.com/Furniture-Sliders ... B001T56KTA

I am not sure if it would be a 46,60 or 72. Ill have to go home and measure it. AS for the goldfish, i will totally take them out. I place to start going brackish with this. I should be able to get the salt mixed when i have it sitting there. The f8 is going to stay until i get to around 1.005 and need to go higher. Looking at getting another tank for him. Ill have my roommate help me and lift the tank and stand. we are not moving it far.

the more i look the more i think its not a 60gal when i get home from work, im totally measuring things. This could have been bad! made salt for a 60gal and it only being 49.

glad we figured out it was a 49gal. mixing salt and thinking its a 60gal could have been bad!now trying to justify a 75gal is easier because its more of a step up lol

You actually have a 46g and not a 49g to be totally accurate. Also at least use a cheap hydrometer to check salinity as just measuring can be too inaccurate...Or just get a refractometor as it will provide total accuracy and you will need this for your GSPs as they grow older.

So anyway, a 46g is 3 less gallons than a 49g...So justifying a 75g just got a little easier.

Check Craigslist for a 75g. With the exception of my 46g bowfront, I have never purchased a new aquarium and CL has done me very well. I bought a 75g with 2 canisters and wayyyy more for $220 on CL.

the move was successful! got two 32gal plastic trash bins, rinse them out and started to empty. took out a 5gal bucket and filled it with water. Put the puffers in and was able to get the stupid goldfish out. Moved it and filled with a powerhead i just got. Worked like a charm! I am loving the new tank place and now i can watch my little guys in bed lol
