Finally home...kinda

talk about an upgrade. They don't know what to do....

I recommend some tall decor, like some fake plants to help break up lines of site and fill the top area of the tank to avoid glass pacing.

Do you have any plans for future upgrading? I'd recommend a 75G over a 60G.

Ya, I have plans for a 90 gal FOWLR as soon as I can afford it

What's all that piping about? What substrate are you using?

Piping is an overflow on the left and the return on the right, and right now i just have aquarium gravel for substrate.

The aquarium gravel is going to annoy you. Lots of detritus gets stuck in there and it's a PITA to get out.

Aragonite sand is best, because it keeps the pH high & stable, around 8.

haha, my tap water pH is around 8 just by itself. the joys of having an aquifer for your public water system. but I am planning on switching to sand when I can afford to.

Just an update on the new 40 gal.
Upgraded to a Prizm protein skimmer, an Aqueon 700 circulation pump and have some sand from an established SW tank on the way. I am slowly raising the SG to about 1.020, so that I can add LR when I can afford it.

Everything from the SW tank sand will either be dead when you get it, or die in your tank if it's not at SW sg levels. Plus, if you don't know about the tank, it could be carrying a disease. I'd say if you can't trust the source 100%, then rinse it.

Nah, it's going straight from an established tank into a few buckets and into my tank. Disease free is a guarantee from him. He runs him a tidy little coral ship.

Heh, I would not say it's 100% disease free especially since it's coming from an LFS. Just my opinion but I've always been sketchy about things like that.

Not from LFS, from a private tank, so no problems.

got an updated pic of the tank, added a Koralia 2 and got my sand today. The free stuff didn't ever come so I went ahead and bought 40 lbs of caribsea sand. Gonna put the sand in after my 2 yr old goes down for the night. Will post a few more pics when I get the sand in.

and now the task of finding some decently priced dry rock...
