ghost shrimp vs cherry shrimp?

Post by puffer_addict »

just wondering which would be easier to breed? i got a 10gal that i want to turn into a planted breeder tank. I cannot seem to get cherry shrimp around me. (pufferpunk, less you know somewhere in Chicago area) I have found ghost shrimp for super cheap. I am looking at getting 30 or so. I would like to start feeding my little guys some shrimp.

Huge +1 to Terrance and J-P's comments. There is no comparison.

Ghost shrimp require: The correct species (there are multiple in the trade, only pne is easy at all and sill needs a separate tank for fry rearing without adults (they cannibalize fry); at least two or more tanks; much more time to maturity.

Red Cherry Shrimp are pretty much the crustacean equivalent of pest snails.

Yeah, mine breed like small red rabbits. I sell off 40-60 every few months. They need stable, clean water, a planted tank, and food; they do the rest themselves.

As I told you on the other thread, I'm sold out, but you can find them at the plantedtank.net forum easily.

Do keep in mind that you need to replenish your genetic material every six months by adding new shrimp from a different seller.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Inbreeding issues are one of the commonest issues in this hobby. I'm going to open a new thread on that topic later today if possible. I would appreciate your input there, LilGreenPuffer - along with anyone else interested.
