okay, i am sort of loss....what do you mean by add .002 ppm per week????
Re: [[NEW HERE]] Need help w/my GSP's. :)
Honestly, go with the largest tank that you can afford. Are there any used options in your area? In my area we can generally get a used tank for $1/gal and this way you could get something larger than you could at a store. I wouldn't go with anything smaller than a 30gal but larger is better as the cleaner the water the healthier the fish.
This page has good information on brackish aquariums: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19348
Generally the issue isn't exposing the fish to salt too quickly (if you make a large change it should be slowly done over hours) but you don't want to kill any bacteria in the filter as they are quite sensitive to salt. I wouldn't worry about salt right now until you get them healthy. See how they're doing in two weeks or so and reevaluate then. Unless, whatever is plaguing them will be negatively affected by the salt and in that situation you should listen to someone other than me

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Fortunately, my Pet store is having a sale.....$1 a gallon.....so I can get a nice sized aquarium, but I have to buy everything again like new, so I'm trying to stay within a budget.....:/
I was just confused about the whole SG, and how the stuff is added, I've never dealt with saltwater fish......all this is new to me.....

Re: [[NEW HERE]] Need help w/my GSP's. :)
Can you afford a 75gal (or 60gal or 50, really as large as you can go) and maybe upgrade the filter later (might not need a new filter down the road if you go marine)? As long as you can afford a large enough heater.
Salt/BW seems overwhelming in the beginning but it really isn't. We'll help you figure it out, no problem.

what are the con's of keeping the fish in a smaller tank...like a 20 or 30G tank?
since it takes them a while to actually grow...my fish are under 2'
just wondering...

I am one of those folks who "upgrade as needed" but I have tons of tanks. The con is you will be buying all new stuff, as they grow. The con is you'll have a smaller system for more (smaller) puffers!

Only if not upgraded as needed. Problem is, folks start getting caught up in their life, might wind up going away to school, lose their job, moves to a smaller place, mom says no bigger tank & then the poor puffs never get upgraded...

And the larger the tank the easier it is to keep high water quality.

The largest tank you can get at that sale is a 55. I recommend searching craigslist because often times you can buy whole set ups at a good price.

Re: [[NEW HERE]] Need help w/my GSP's. :)
okay, so i need to start converting my freshwater into brackish water......i read in the post about the GSP's that I guess pure water is 1.000 SG or whatever.....and its good start off by increasing .002 SG per week or per 2 weeks???
I also read that 1cup of salt per 5 G of water, will raise the SG to .005, so does that mean......1/2cup of salt per 5 G of water will raise my SG "around" .002??? am i doing this right???????????????
also, anyone recommend tank mates for the GSP, i read somewhere that tomato or other clown fish are known to be okay tank mates???
any feedback would be great.
