freshwater to brackish question

I have a 60gal with 3 puffers. 2.5 inches figure 8, 2.5 green spotted and a .5 green spotted. I have them in freshwater and need to start going brackish. I am completely lost on how i should approach this. my goal is to get around 1.005. Just not sure how to mix my water change water to have it mix into. What is a safe amount to go up every week? i do 5gal water change every week.

My suggestion would be to set up a separate 15-20g tank for your F8. He will be good in a SG of 1.005. The GSPs require high-end BW to marine conditions, as they reach adulthood. In addition, they will grow to the size of a Nerf football, requiring 30g ea.

how can i be able to measure lower sg? everything i see starts at 1.002 i would need something that can be used for under 1.0

You're not looking at the right hydrometers. Instant Ocean & SeaTest sell ones that start at 1.000.

i am starting with freshwater. i would need something that can start from 0.001 to then go up. 1.000 will not help me

You do not need to read below 1.000 specific gravity. Pure water's specific gravity is 1.000. Only other liquids (generally non-aqueous solvents) are less than 1.000.

im going to go to 1.005 then get a 20-29gal tank for the f8.

ah, this is quite helpful. I had the same question. I am going to start the change over to saltwater with my fish as well. & was clueless!:)
