1. pH: 8.0, Ammonia: goes between 0.5-2.0 in a week, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 0.5, salinity: 1.010.
2. 29 gal w/4 GSP (I know they are over crowded. Working on that).
3. Feeding: Tropical fish flakes daily (they don't eat very many), goldfish every 3-4 days, snails every month. Water changes: 80-90% weekly, add instant ocean salt and Prime.
4. No changes made in last week or so.
5. Tank has been set up for 2 1/2 months. Didn't cycle tank, didn't know I had to at the time (hence the name pufferidiot :0).
Is there anything I can do to help my puffie unpuff? It puffed up approx 12pm MST. It is still breathing, but the current was pushing it all around. Now it is stuck in some fake plants.

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Hold the puffer by the tail so head is pointing up and gently wave from side to side , to help it deflate ....Pufferidiot wrote:1. pH: 8.0, Ammonia: goes between 0.5-2.0 in a week, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 0.5, salinity: 1.010.

You really need to get a bigger tank asap (they'll land up fighting in such a small space ..hence ..), as for the feeding flakes and live feeders are no good ....stick to snails and other crunchy foods , cockles , muscles etc and the odd live crab or cray as a treat ( watch the pincers if your puffers are on the small side , take them off it not sure )

+1 to the above. You may need to attempt burping more than once. I feel I have to highlight that flakes should not be fed and nor should goldfish. I don't even feed my tetras flakes and they like them. The foods suggested above with some veggies thrown in would be a suitable diet. The excessive overcrowding is giving an ammonia reading which is slowly poisoning them, can you not return 3 of them? Or find a huge tank secondhand?
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: My GSP puffed up and can't/won't unpuff
Did u do anything that gave him the possibility to take in air or was it something else? If he puff up with air, he would be inverted at the surface but u said now he's stuck in some fake plants.. Unless U have very tall or floating fake plants.. If he puffed up with water, dun think burping would help much..

What kind of filtration do U have? Your readings looks quite wrong.. Your water change schedule is very wrong for a uncycled tank.

My guess is either the other puffers terrorized him into puffing or he's sick from the parameters.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

My guess is either the other puffers terrorized him into puffing or he's sick from the toxic parameters.
