We've had a hurricane!

Post by Troender »

We had a hurricane here yesterday! We can have pretty bad weather around here, but rarely as strong as a real hurricane. It's been some years since we had one as bad as this. Luckily we weren't badly hit, here at my parent's, but I know it was a lot worse along the coast. Here there were mostly trees that were torn up, all though my father had to get up at 1 a.m. to check, as he was afraid the wind would blow the windows in, and that it would take the little house we have out in the garden. I worried mostly about my car. But we didn't lose anything. It was worse with the indoor soccer field not far from here. It broke down completely! We had to go there to look today, and it was just gone! You can see a pic of it here (the text is in Norwegian though). They are really unlucky there. Two years ago the same soccer field broke down because of lots and lots of heavy snow on the roof. If they have to rebuild it every other year, it will get expensive for them in the long run... And here is something else to watch. I must admit I am fascinated by it all, but I am chewing my nails off when I think about what it's like at home (I am at my parent's for the vacation). I know the weather was pretty bad there too, all though not exactly a hurricane. I don't know if there's a power outage (we had two of them last night here), and I worry about all my fishes and tanks. :scared: I have nobody who can check it out for me before the 29th. And there are some trees that can get uprooted and hit my house too... I hate not being at home when really bad weather hits! I can't see for myself what has happened, and fix things that needs fixing at once. There's a new storm coming in tonight, but not as bad as last night. Wow, this is some kind of Christmas weather! Keep your fingers crossed for my dear fishes back home!

Yes, it hit at home too, but not at hurricane strength. I've seen pics of the damage in the area, and there are some not so nice things happening there. My house will be fine as long as none of my neighbour's trees hasn't uprooted and fallen on it. But I do think about those trees... And I know there was power outage not far from my house, so I do worry about my fish tanks, and especially my reef tank. If I am unlucky, a fuse or two has been blown out, so I won't have any electrisity for some days. :scared: That is probably what scares me the most right now. Yes, I always think about my fish first...

I took this pics earlier today:

This is at the marina where my father keeps his boat. Luckily all the boats were in a place where the wind and waves didn't hit bad, so they are all OK.

I loved this tree! It was huge and beautiful. Of course it had to fall across the railway...
