I have run multiple 24/7 veggie filters, but you have to do some experimentation on light intensity, and it is always lower than with normal light/dark cycles. Many of my veggie filters have been coupled to tanks where the fish involved will nit tolerate live plants.

Most of my veggie filter have 10-12 hours lighted intervals. That too would likely be a bit less bright than would an 8 hour light cycle using the same plants.

Plant harvest also varies with the particular plant. Some harvested materials are just composted or fed to herbivorous fish, others may be traded in to the LFS. Harvests may be just a haircut, or may pull all plants from a limited section - say a quarter of the tank, which is vacuumed and them planted with smaller cuttings or offsets. That sort of handling keeps the filter function more even over extended time periods.

A little off topic, but it is a cool thought:

It is too bad that we can't get a photo cell type timer in the tank that turn the lights off and on. When the room reaches a certain light intensity (or lack of) the lights automatically switch off or on. That way we wouldn't have to compensate for longer days in the summer and longer nights in the winter.... just an idea that sprung to mind.

Ok.. its starting to get complicated.. I will stick to 10hrs of 110w PL lighting, same time as my DT as theres only a few stalks of wisteria in it. Set by timer. Envious that u guys are able to return/exchange stuffs with your LFS.. generally from where I am from, they simply shoo us away. Probably in fear of introducing disease to their livestocks or plants..

There are a couple forums that will allow you to trade plants:

APC.com and theplantedtank.com

Mind you most of those are USA based, BUT since you are in Singapore you have access to a lot of other products that these guys and gals want. ;)

I had replaced all the plants with hornwort and too out the substrate too. I am also treating the tank for ich so the temp is at ard 86 degrees. Today, realise that a big lot of my precious hornwort had melted.. Could it be the constant high temp?..

Its a 60g with almost half filled with that stuff.. At least 80% damaged.. Broken away, disintegrated, melted away.. Just 2 days ago, I was netting out ard 30 neons out from it and didn't see anything abnormal.. Seems to have happened over just 1 night...

if it is new to the tank it does that... even transferring from one tank to another did that with mine. It will bounce back

Take them out of the pots or the roots will choke.

Hardy hornwort will melt at temps over 80F. The tropical form will take it.
