having said that... science is always advancing and what we can keep now isn't what we once could. These little advances may allow is to keep more delicate fish that once were not available to us or to people in unique situations.
I have no idea if these things work. But hell if they are willing to ship some tanks, filters and livestock for free I'll test them out
+1 Good point

Jeni, here's a screenshot I took from an Ebook I purchased via the PlantedTank.net forum. It's a small section on hair algae.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

When my java moss went like that I tried the hydrogen peroxide method to no avail.**
**That was the only location in that tank that did that. Everything else was fine. Nothing in that article helped. There was a thread on here about that experience somewhere. I ended up balling it and tossing it out... later finding out it was in fact koi food. Try it.. there may be some re-sale value in it.

what about something like this? at least since your already getting this type of algae, this might work and it will keep it out of the display tank and you can continue to do your weekly cleaning or however often you feel necessary. and you can use it to your advantage as a phosphate and nitrate filter. i wanted to try this out.

lol why not? its kind of simple. it just looks like a lot since they show how to set it up multiple ways and have a chart incase you didnt know about the "head" from the bottom tank back to the display. have it work like an overflow from the tank under(by gravity) to the "waterfall" piping that has the screen attached. it will trickle through there to a lower bucket. then have the water pump back up to the main tank. that is if you were to do it sump style. if you already have a sump set it than its perfect, just a matter of running one more pipe or tube to get the trickle over the sump, and then you already have the pump back up to the tank. just might need a bit more powerful pump if you cant adjust your flows

you dont run sumps at all? i could be wrong but i dont see how you couldnt set it up like a sump so that if you lost power, only a certain amount of water will fall into the lower chamber and you can compensate for that so the bucket or sump doesnt overflow. i will stop trying to plead my case lol

why not? my thoughts were that the overflow is to help stop the actual overflowing from happening as it will only hold a certain amount of water and it only sits a certain amount in the tank for this purpose. i have never set one up so i could very well know nothing about them. but i have read about and tried to understand them
