Offer from LFS - red eye puffer

Post by jenrkit84 »

I went into my LFS to get some supplies and the women in there offered me their red eye puffer, tank and everything it comes with. Apparently no one wants this poor thing and they are dying to get rid of it. Without knowing anything about it, i told her I would think about it, do some research and let her know tomorrow.
So from what i gather, complete freshwater, and this puffer is full grown, small, in a 5 gallon tank. Looks healthy, active, clear eyes, etc.
Anything i should know, change, adjust?

There are many puffers with red eyes. At the minimum, it'll need a 10g if it's one of the Carinotetraodon species.

Red eyes, no red tail, about 2"-2.5" big.
Tanish in color.

If you post a pic, we can ID for sure but definitely 10g minimum. I'd buy the tank from them (if you don't have one already) & just transfer everything from the 5g over.

I'm trying to find one on google, unfortunately I didn't think to take a picture of it while I was in the store.

Found one similar, tan, and the red eyes were diluted red instead of bright and vibrant.

I think you should get it. If someone else gets it they probably won't take care of him right.

I'm still undecided about it, I went back into the LFS this afternoon to gather another look, and as soon as I slowly walked up to the tank, the puffer cowered into the corner. I did a little research and have found that they aren't as personable as a GSP or other species, so I'm not too sure what I want to do at this point.
