freeze dried krill ok for F8?
freeze dried krill ok for F8?
My lfs advised me to give freeze dried krill to my F8s because it's harder and will help trim their teeth better. Are these any good?
Re: freeze dried krill ok for F8?
Much better things to give, such as snail, shell on shrimp, mussles, clams ect. Krill can cause lock jaw mostly in porc puffers. Most people tend to stay away from it here, hard to get them eating other foods once they get use to it. I myself would skip the krill.

The fishes in the LFS are usually starved or not well fed so that will appear more active. So they will just eat any food that is dumped in. Freeze dried krills can be used as a occasional treats. BUT u are suppose to soak them in tank water first as u wouldn't wan them to eat the air in the krills. And after soaking, your freeze dried krills are soft. So, never listen to the LFS.

Aren't they too small for clams still? I feed them shrimp with shell on it they hardly touch the shell.

I think that's been when krill was a staple/exclusive, but I'm not sure.trekenk wrote:Much better things to give, such as snail, shell on shrimp, mussles, clams ect. The thing about freeze-dried foods is that they're not as nutritious. The seafood section of your grocery stores is full of the good stuff - frozen and fresh prawns, krill, shrimp, crabs, lobsters, mussels, clams, etc. Fresh food should be frozen to kill any diseases they might be carrying, and previously-frozen food should not be re-frozen before feeding - ask if anything's been frozen and thawed. Any of this can be soaked in vitamins made specially for marine fish.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

That link is also about porcpuffs--not sure it causes lockjaw in any other fish. But all fish need a varied diet.
