Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

12" Fahaka Puffer W/ Ick (Treated w Clout?)
I have a 12" Fahaka Puffer who has ick
I increased the water from 78 to 85 and added 2 mardi gras cups of salt (190 gallon tank)
I also did a dose of clout Thursday (9:00pm)
This morning (Friday) he is acting more normal (swimming and ate for the first time in a week) but he skin looks the same
Should I do another rounf of clout tonight (24 hrs after first) after a 20% water change?
Or should I use an "ick" treatment? Or just do the 20% water change and keep the heat up?
He was in a 125 long and moved to a 190 gallon 3 weeks ago. The new tank under went a bacterial starter and gold fish.
During the move the water in both tanks dropped to 74ish. He also got a new led light (from light strips to the led).
I think all of these were part of the cause..
Thank you so much!

Just salt and heat, nothing else needed. Daily waterchange and gravel vac also
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Thank you for the info.. Should the temperature range from 84-85 for ten days? 20% water change daily? Ok to use the "hot" water form the sink (didnt know if this would be ok due to extra metals in the water heater wall etc). Do I need to do a gravel vac if I have live sand? Sorry for so many questions.

Match the water to the tank temp. Live sand does not exist in f/w. I did 50% daily for a long time with gravel vac. I deal in deg:c so can't help on conversion

Yes, that's about right. How do you think the parasite got introduced into the system?

I believe it was a combo of starter gold fish, new tank (stressed) and a heater going out in the process...

26.5-27 I kept at seemed all good. Pp's link shows the best method available to us. Follow this exactly and he will soon be looking better, just be sure to follow the full treatment.

Puffer looking worse.. Has long strands of slimy white spots hanging from him.. Tried doing a dose of ick guard and it cleared up for about 6 hours before coming back.. Still sit it out? Move him to a new hosiptial tank (hopefully he can fit in a 40 gal) with a new filter and heater?

Was he alone in the larger tank? Is the QT cycled?

Leave him where he is the stress will make him worse. Salt and heat are all you need, mine got a bit worse before getting better. Puffers are very sensitive and some medications can kill. Salt heat and daily gravel vac only
