Tricksy Question
Found out today that my BF bought me my protein skimmer!!!! Yay!!! That's the good part...
The bad part is, is that my tank is 3.25" away from the wall....and the protein skimmer is 3.75" deep. The tricksy question now becomes: how do you move a roughly 800 pound tank and stand out the extra half inch without destroying everything???

Re: Tricksy Question
* send the bf to the gym
* empty part of the tank
* hang the skimmer on another side
Some serious and less serious options?

Re: Tricksy Question
it is an HOB skimmer?
Why not hang it off the side of the tank?

Re: Tricksy Question
I've fit my skimmer off the side. Fit right between the light's legs, perfectly!

Re: Tricksy Question
Cause it won't fit on the side of my tank with my CF lamp. It has clamps, not legs per say, so already half of the side of my tank is taken up, and I will have to use this until I get my LEDs in January.
LoL @ sending the BF to the gym. We also work with a lot of big dudes. I might have to cook for everyone, but I can at least invite 5 or 6 of them over LOL. We will see. Denzil thinks we can do it, he's just not sure how. 0.o

Re: Tricksy Question
Should be fine if you empty out the majority of the water, you only really have to slide it a little bit forward after all, right? Depending on the floortype and whether or not the stand has any filts underneath that might not even be necessary.goldielocke76 wrote:Cause it won't fit on the side of my tank with my CF lamp. LoL even with 91 lbs of LR in it? Yes, only about .5-.75 of an inch, but we have carpet so it might be a little bit tougher. Just hope we can do it without too much falling over

Re: Tricksy Question
Sounds like it's time for a very large water change.
Just deconstruct the LR and put it in a bucket of tank water while you're moving stuff around.

ughh. right after yoshi comes home too >< oh well, I have to keep in mind the end result, and a protein skimmer is needed to keep Yoshi happy and healthy, so I will do whatever it takes.

Re: Tricksy Question
With carpet it's not as easy, yes just empty 80% or so
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: Tricksy Question
forget moving the tank ... move the lights...
I am sure you can get creative enough to suspend them from the ceiling via some simple cable... it would look nice also.

Re: Tricksy Question
it doesnt make much of a mark to put a few tiny anchors in the ceiling. and it would be easily covered with a simple puddy so your landlord wont see when your done. go for it!

Re: Tricksy Question
I actually just had to move a large credenza with 2 aquariums on it. I removed some of the water, Roba lifted the credenza with a car jack and we skid those plastic furniture slider robot pads under the feet. Then lowered it, and he used a metal bar to wedge between the wall and credenza to pry/push it foward the couple of inches needed to fit the HOB filter on the back.

Re: Tricksy Question
I had to move my 90 gallon reef tank a few feet over about a month back. I didn't mess with any of the live rock, I just emptied the tank and then filled the tank up again as fast as I could. I just siphoned out about 75 gallons of the water into a couple rubbermaid containers. I have a about 100lbs of live rock in there, so with that and a few inches of water in the bottom of the tank two of us where able to slide it all a few feet over carpet.
