Homemade Liverock

Some people recommend that once you take the rocks out of the sand to wrap a wet towel around them for three days before putting then in the water so they have time to harden a bit more. You have to keep them moist, but it gives it time to be moist and harden more all at once.

It has to be cured for 6-8 before being put in a tank. It needs that time so the chemicals can leach out. My husband has already brought it up..lol. We plan on selling our leftovers on CL. We only have one store here in town to buy LR from and it is crappy. The next closest place is a 1 hour drive. Hopefully we will be able to sell what we have left and make our money back...in turn that would make our LR free for us in the end!

Oh no...they have to cure longer than that. It's not so much about them being hard enough...you have to soak to let the salt dissolve out of them. If not cured properly your pH will be at deadly levels and kill everything in your tank. They can go through several ph spikes before they are ready. It is a lengthy process. Not to mention all the nasty chemicals you have to let leach out...one being lime. They will be sitting in fresh water baths for at least the next two months before I will even consider putting them in a tank. Water changed daily.

Oh no I know that lol. Goodness, I don't mean you can JUST use towels. It's just something people do to let them harden a bit more before soaking them. As you said they have to set in freshwater, changed daily to get rid of all the stuff that leaches out. I need to start explaining myself better so I don't cause someone to make their tank crash >.>
