Baby Puffer en route!

Post by ACF »

Well I decided to get another Fahaka, en route tomorrow! Mine got sick and I literally helped him kick the bucket! :( RIP fata$$ :(
Anyway so I got a 2" lil wee one en route and Ive never cared for a baby Fahaka. I got fata$$ @ 5"s long. So I was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on feeding and care? ie: Temperature, fav foods, environment, light, mates, etc... Right now I have a 100 gallon and he's? (how do i tell sex) going to go in there with a few buddies. (Feeder guppies *wild*) and a 5" Rubbernose Pleco. Im not worried about the guppies but I am worried about the pleco as fata$$ ate 2 of them (smaller) and got constipated which lowered his immunity and broke out in ulcers that were not going away with all sorts of treatments including a week erythromyacin. So yea all advice would definitely be appreciated! :D *Cheers*

Thanks!

sounds like you'd be better off getting rid of the pleco, I haven't heard of many plecos lasting long in Fahaka tanks..

No but towards the end ... the two were like inseparable! Rubber was always near fata$$ like he knew he was sick or was just rubbing it in his face like ha come on eat me :P LoL I guess it would be in my best interest to get rid of the pleco though. I do NOT want to take the chance!

The bioload the pleco had produced will be perfect to support the puffer, when the pleco is removed.

Yea the set-up is good to rock. I did a thorough cleaning after fata$$ passed ... changed out the Aquaclear 110s (2) charcoal and sponges but didn't change out the liverock.. do you think I should? Scrubbed the castle, bamboo and rocks down and vacuumed all the substrate very thoroughly. I hope Im good to rock and hope nothing that he had is still lingering in tank!

Start him off with live worms if you can find them. Try lots & lots of different foods from the fish dept of your grocery store & soak them all in fish vitamins.

Either Zoe or Vita-chem are good.

Saw that u mentioned live rock as part of your filtration.. would it have any other function other than raising the Ph?

Ive actually been battling that w/ ph down... Was at 7.8 knocked it back to 7.4 .... though i tested my water out of the tap and its sitting at 7.8 so i dont think the liverock has really done anything. I was told driftwood helps to balance that out..? I picked up some vita-chem actually.

LR is made from calcium carbonate & will raise your pH.

What do you mean by "live"? LR is made from calcium carbonate & will raise your pH.

Have never gone SW before.. But from my readings, in a FW environment that only purpose is to raise PH.. They can only be "live" in a SW.
