best snail

My F8 loves his pond snails but he won't even acknowledge them unless they are crushed first, no matter how small/large they are. I don't have to worry about any of the pieces that fall either-- he makes sure to get them all LoL.

U could try your hands on breeding apple snails. Those large yellow type. When they just hatch, the size is just perfect. I think they would even be able to chew on the whole snail with shell. I feeding them to my figure 8. So once they grow bigger, I can give them to Birdy. But it seems to take forever for them to grow to a size big enough for him to be a decent meal though.. So he's still waiting..

They take so long to grow that it's impractical. But they do come in some amazing colors and make good pets in their own right. Blue, black, yellow, and ivory are easy to find, and you can also find hot pinks, greens, and browns.

Is it possible to breed ramshorn and apple snails in the same tank? Or would they eat each other's eggs?

the apple may ear the eggs of the rams, but apples lay their eggs above the waterline so the rams won't touch them.
Apples are not the easiest to breed. Need the right humidity and temps to have a clutch hatch out properly.

Not a good combo either way.

Ya.. Mine tend to have the habit to crawl too far out of the tank and couldn't find the way back in.. so far for 1 mth, I have 4 clutchs and 2 fail to hatch properly. The other 2 gave me hundreds... but even watching them grow is quite fun. when U see so many of them crawling ard with the 2 feelers or whatever nots swinging around is just plain time killer..

Well.. Thought that as apple shells are harder, it would give that extra kick for birdy.. But didn't know it takes them soooo long to grow..

I will try the pond snails as they are easily available to me.
