New Variation of Dwarf Puffer?!

Post by Terrance »

I went to my LFS today. Everything was looking normal. I saw the usual puffers that are always there. Then I walked by a 8g nano tank. It had good aquascaping, so I took a peek. I saw a DP hunting for baby snails. Then I took a look around and then noticed a black fish. It looked strange because this black fish has a very light yellow tinted fin and some other colors. Then this black fish followed the DP around the tank. To my surprise, this black fish had almost the same size and shape of the DP. I then asked the employees, and he said that this black fish is also a DP. "it arrived with the batch of DPs that came in recently. we thought he looked cool so we put him in this nana tank."

Has any of you guys seen a black DP before? I didn't have my camera with me, but I will try to get pics later this weekend.
Kind regards,
Terrance

Yes, black dwarf puffers do occur, but it has yet to be clarified if they are just a color variation or a new species. Feel free to get it to study it, so far they are not very common.

They won't sell it. I hate those display tanks. Anyways, I don't have any camera that could possibly take pictures of small fish with detail. I kept looking at it today, and this is what I saw

Image

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

It had colorful lines running horizontally from eyes to tail. I couldn't really see the underbelly. The back had a small tint of dark green.

I wonder what the ratio would be, 1:1000, 1:10,000 etc...
