what is the best snail for dwarf puffers?
The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang the best. Use the talents you possess.

Re: best snail
Mine always preferred ramshorns, and they breed really fast.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: best snail
Yea just use whichever you can get your hands on, pond or rams
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: best snail
You say be sure they are small?
Is this so the puffer doesn't eat the head and leaves the rest?
Can you not pre-crush the snails if they are larger to make sure the puff gets the lot?
+1 to pond snails.

Yes, that can work, as long as you make sure that if there are any uneaten bits, you remove them.JerseyMike wrote:You say be sure they are small?

Re: best snail
Puffers eat all the snail, when they cut all the head off, the suck the entire body and leave the shell alone, some of my puffers develop a true art of sucking snails out of the shell ñ_ñ
Im sure that:
80% of puffers eat the entire snail, 10% need pre crushing lessons, 10% don't eat snails or don't know they are food.

Re: best snail
Yeah I just heard that if the snail is too big then they can't eat the whole snail, whether it is by sucking them out or not, that's why they just eat the head and the rest goes bad in the tank.RVS wrote:Puffers eat all the snail, when they cut all the head off, the suck the entire body and leave the shell alone, some of my puffers develop a true art of sucking snails out of the shell ñ_ñ

That's why I crush them sometimes if the 'eye' sized ones are hiding, haha.

Re: best snail
U could try your hands on breeding apple snails. Those large yellow type. When they just hatch, the size is just perfect. I think they would even be able to chew on the whole snail with shell. I feeding them to my figure 8. So once they grow bigger, I can give them to Birdy. But it seems to take forever for them to grow to a size big enough for him to be a decent meal though.. So he's still waiting..
I am not a Troll, I am just pissed..!

Re: best snail
I had a pair of mystery snails breed. It took about three months for those darn things to grow to the size of a pencil eraser. I fed them to Ares...he can eat snails that are MUCH larger than that. Ramshorns grow faster.
