Does anyone know where I can get a cheap hang the back overflow?

Different strokes for different folks. Some folks prefer drilled tanks (some with drilled bottoms, some with drilled backs). Others prefer overflow boxes or other variations on constant level siphons. I am in the latter group and have been for decades.
Any time water is moved from one tank to another continuously, there is an element of risk. The better you understand whatever devices you select, and the better you maintain them, the safer you will be.
