Gosh guys, I must be doing something completely wrong when testing GH. I have now added 37 drops of solution and have shaken the tube after every drop, and it's redder than h-e-double hockey sticks, but it still hasn't turned green yet = / wth does this mean and what am I doing wrong??? =(

Test results are in (minus the GH because of problems stated above):

Ph: 8
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
KH: 179ppm
GH: unknown
Ca: 480 ppm

These last three tests were pitas. Especially the GH, which NEVER turned green. Let me know what you all think ^.^

Posting up some more recent pics! Also, I noticed that I have white little things on my glass that move pretty darn quick (incredibly tiny, made me think of fleas when I saw them) and also, what looked to be like itty bitty blades of grass (best way I know how to describe it) growing all over the side of the glass. Again, super duper small, I thought my eyes were fuzzy because I couldn't see them at first....any idea what these two things might be?

Well, everything looks more red than it did before I got it all in the tank. I am hoping that this is a good thing, means that everything is getting healthier being in a tank with light and what not. I never see them emeralds, but we see the hermits all the time. The bigger one keeps shell shopping. Always picking up shells, trying them on for a few hours, then swapping again.

http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... TWzRc-A-LB --> this is Pig (the smaller one is named Hook [lol Denzil picked it out])
http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... q23Xb-A-LB --> Tank shot
http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... 9Rcn7-A-LB --> another one of Pig
http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... WjMhk-A-LB --> more red rock
http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... 7hXbT-A-LB --> lol someone's been cutting the grass
http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... sLLcL-A-LB --> Pig playing peek-a-boo haha

I have also seen some pink and light green spots start to form on the substrate, I hope that this means its on its way to becoming "live." Hopefully soon I will get a little GSP. Thoughts on getting one before putting a skimmer on, and having him/her in there for a while (few months) before I can get a skimmer? I plan on getting one, but I won't be able to afford it with my hobby budget until January LoL. Thanks again guys!

Dancing white fleas are pods, waiting on a skimmer is fine short term.
Make sure you put some seaweed/nori/lettuce or something for the emerald crabs to eat. They need to eat a lot and are mostly herbivores.

Sinking pellets are good to feed the hermits too! Long as you sink them near the crabs.

Do I do anything about the pods? Or the little "grass" growing on the glass? Also, just because it came with the 5 gallons of salt, I have been putting in "Seaweed Blend, herbivore diet" by Instant Ocean in the tank every other day or so. There is also alot of algae in the tank that looks like grass, so I think (?) they are getting enough to eat....maybe I will go find some seaweed or something to put in there for at least the emeralds, and get pellets for the crabs. Any idea of where I can get food quality seaweed, and what kind of pellets should be gotten for the hermits?

Thanks! Oh it's good to know that pods are a good sign of tank health! I was thinking it was the other way around...LoL. Learn something new every day! =D I just put some of that foodstuffs in the tank, and the hermits went crazy! They both ran to the top of the rocks and chowed down on the pieces that came their way. Still haven't seen the emeralds though....not sure where they are, but there are tons and tons of hiding spots in the tank

Ok guys, so the side of my fish tank looks like it's been planted with newly sprouted grass, and it's getting EVERYWHERE else in the tank. I am afraid to mag float the side of the glass, but I am afaid of messing with the pods. However, I want to be able to look into my tank and not feel like my eyeballs are going out on me LoL. Any suggestions? What is this stuff? Is it good or bad?
