Whats the most colourful freshwater puffer?

Post by Puff8 »

Hey all

Think I might have been bitten by the puffer bug, I adore my abei puffer percy but if I was to set up another tank Id like to get the most colourful puff I can - I am not ready for marine , might consider brackish but I like to stick in my comfort zone with freshwater

any suggestions?

Miurus will change colors often. At my LFS, they have a miurus in a tank with many different colored decor. It has turned deep orange, light orange, dark lava brown-red, light brown with dark brown strips, and dark brown. I'm really surprised. I can understand why it turned dark lava brown-red since there are some lava rocks inside the tank. I'm not sure why it turns orange or brown when there are no orange or brown decor. I wonder if it has to do with any of its neighbor fishes. Maybe its trying to blend in with some of the other decor.

I like the auriglobus metallic green shine :supercool:

My personal suggestion for most attractive FW puffer is the SAP. The combo of looks and activity and the preference for schooling in heavily planted largish tanks is unbeatable for me.

About the T.Miurus, thats the point! its chameleonic color changes! You can have a fish that colors himself according to its environment!
The problem is that T. Miurus its a Lurker, so is not an active fish you can admire, thats why i also suggest A. Modestus. & T.Pustulatus, big colored and Active fish.
SAP is also nice, and they are paceful fish, well, compared to the other aspirant :D

Not necessarily... My blonde miurus remains tan, no matter how red his gravel is.

I was just thinking to myself that if I took one I'd give it yellow decoration and yellow substrate to see if it will become yellow
