Tiny white mushroom things

Oh no! Sick fish?! Come here and see if someone can help!

Read this before posting!!

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Tiny white mushroom things

Post by Cheeto »

I dont think i have good luck with aquariums :( or im a bad puffer owner.
ph-8.0
ammonia-0
nitrite-0
nitrate-5
SG 1.002
20 gallon two 1-1.5" Ceylons
feeding twice a day at noon and midnight rotate between snails mussle bloodworms and mysis soaked in Kent Zoecon i use Prime and Stability for water changes 2 days of useing Melafix for Dot's tail bites
been running aquarium for 3-4 months cycled fishles cycle

Okay so now i seem to have tiny white/clear dots that almost look like mushroms growing all over my plastic plants and glass aswell as a couple brownish spots. the white dots are about the size of a grain of sand and the brown spots are about the size of a pea. i have been crushing the snails because that is the only way my puffers will eat them so maybe baby snails? or i run my lights about 8-15 hours a day and i looked up online maybe white algae? idk for sure and i dont wanna add crap to my tank if i dont have to. I have noticed alot of un eaten food in the tank but i am fairly quick to vacuum it out so maybe that has somthing to do with it. im verry sorry to be posting my issues as much as i do, im still fairly new to fish keeping hobby and puffers are the only fish my wife let me buy. im trying my best to give them everything they need to be happy and thrive and i thank every one of you who have helped me.

Fungus growth due to overstocking, overfeeding & undercleaning.

BINGO!

I have a single Ceylon in a 55 gallon. Upgrade the tank size to a 75 min in my opinion. Feeding once a day is enough. Cut back to 3-4 days a week once they're 3 inches or so.

Cut back on the lighting too. Try to be consistent with the timing, or use a timer. 15 hrs is kinda long. I am quite particular with food. I always feed just enough so that there will not any uneaten. If u use a small container to prepare their food, DO NOT pour everything in at once! Drop in bit by bit so u know when to stop. When they do not wan to eat anymore, they tend to "play" with their food. That's where the uneaten food came abt.
