Hello from Zboe :)

Post by zboe »

Hi I just joined today Im 14 and live in the states. I currently own two F-8 puffers in a 35 gallon freshwater tank along with three tiger barbs three black skirt tetras a golden killie wonder fish, a swordtail and a golden dojo worm/eel thing. I had a green spot at one point a year or so ago when my tank was a guppy/molly/swordtail tank. I am looking forward to being part of this forum :)
(EDIT) It seems I have a hex tetra as well xP I havent seen it for over a week and I woke up today to see it just swimming around

Welcome

Its going to be said so Ill just say it, your tank is way over stocked. Those F8s are going to end up killing everything else in the tank. F8s need 15g each, so your tank is big enough for the 2 F8s but not everything else.

This is not meant in a bad way please dont get offended

I understand what you are saying I bought them without doing any research and then found out it wasn't the best choice. I think I might want to have puffers only in my tank but at the moment Im sort of bound with what to do. I depend on rides from my parents and they wont drive me to return them.
They are being pretty docile in my tank at the moment just swimming around together. The alrger of the two did try to nip at my biggest barb when it went to close to a snail it was watching but the barb darted away to fast for Him/her to nip at it. Im hoping until I save up enough money for a new tank the fact that I have short finned fast fish will keep them from the puffers.
Also Im confused from what Ive read
Some people say they need brackish water and need to be only species ect.
While others say they live longer in fresh and do great in a community ect.
So Im not sure which to go by as what I read is about 50/50
And thanks everyone ^-^ Ill check out the topic :3

Go with what you read HERE, we won't lead you the wrong way. We have someone here who have been keeping puffers for over 50 years. This particular man kept F8s alive for 18+ years as single fish in brackish water. I styled my F8 article according to what I have learned from him.

Many of us have kept fish (puffers in particular) for longer as you have been alive.
