Hi everyone. I've just found this site. I'm new to aquariums as have recently been infected by the bug! I have always adored Puffers and would love to have a puffer or two in my life. I don't have a very large tank at the moment though so no puffers for me
I adore all puffers though know far too little about them so I'm hoping visiting this forum will give me the info I need to make the right choices for my prospective new pals. Currently I have a freshwater community 180l tank and have tiger barbs, albino cories and frogs! Initially I was hoping to add a dwarf puffer but I've read so many conflicting opinions on aggressiveness etc that I'm all confused. I don't have the room for the kind of tank I'd really like with a nice big puffer taking centre stage but I was wondering about a smaller tank for a couple of dwarf puffers perhaps.

My Puffers: 1 GSP (Microfiche) RIP, 1 Monotrete Turgidus (Leon) in a 30gal. 1 Monotrete suvattii in a 40 gal FW. 120 gallon BW with 3 juvenile Dragon Gobies (so cool). 55 gal with a 2" GSP named Hank. 180 gallon being set up for a Fahaka in the next few months!
Welcome to the forum! You have found a fantastic resource for all things Puffer.
As for puffers for that tank dwarf puffers would be the best choice as long as you are willing to part with the other fish. DP's are not community fish. There's multiple reasons for this, first, They need pristine water quality and the fish you have in there have a big bioload and cause nitrates to be high. Second and most important, DP's are eat all sorts of different foods but they also primarily eat scales and tails in the wild. You other fish will start to look like someone took a paper punch to their tail and they will end up with missing scales. Even if fed well they will go back to their natural behavior and try their natural diet!
I personally love all DP tanks! These sweet little bumble bee looking creature humming around the tank and coming to greet you at the glass.

Thanks guys. Yes, I've definitely come to the conclusion that I need a dwarf puffer tank! They are just to gorgeous to pass by. I saw a new batch in the aquatics shop today and just found myself drifting back to it every few minutes just to watch them buzzing around. Gorgeous.
