GPS tank mate

Post by jenrkit84 »

Just curious, any single additional puffer i could use? I read in a few places that F8's and GPS's can do well together.
This time, I am asking before acting lol. 8)

Figure 8 puffers are low end brackish, and GSP's are high end brackish to full marine.
Mixing puffer species isn't suggested anyway, as they tend to eventually, or quickly, fight, sometimes to the death. Even when kept in with the same species, this can happen.
In a 29 gallon, I wouldn't suggest tankmates, and it is often suggested they be kept singly, because they live longer alone.

Well congratulations about this! :D is the best thing you can do...
An about the puffer TM, i´m with sevenyear... almost all the puffers don't like about other puffer, these guys are very jealous, and they may fight for anything, and with those teeth, any fight could result memorial...

Young puffers frequently accept tank mates, but as long as they grow up, they want to be the supreme rulers of the tank (and you) and nothing will stop their way to the crown, so to speak 8)

I keep my GSP with 6 Dwarf Red Legged Hermits, 1 Electric Blue Hermit, 1 Peppermint Shrimp and 1 Coral Banded Shrimp. Although I suppose they are more food reserves than actual tank mates. For now at least the puffer cares little for the hermits and is afraid for the other 2 shrimps . Guess it boils down to personality.

Agree with Seven, F8's and GSP's need different water perms.

Anything you put in is nothing more then food waiting to be eaten. I have mine with 7 different hermits knowing that all could be eaten at some point

I am estimating him at 6cm, maybe 7 cm. The Coral Banded Shrimp has a real attitude . He spent the night near the puffers new sleeping place so the GSP is rather upset/grumpy. Even tried to jump out the aquarium whe I went to the tank to turn on the light. A moment ago he tried to jump out again when the shrimp walked by *sigh*. Even though at this size he should be able to kill the shrimp already. The shrimp is bigger but far too slow.

If the tank's big enough you may try another GSP or a Ceylon, if you're looking for another puffer to keep it with. Otherwise, once it gets to marine there are a few SW fish you could keep it with.
