My head hurts! - q about moving Mushroom

Trying to figure out the most sensible way of moving Mushroom from his old tank to his new tank, and I'm confusing myself!
His new tank is currently a dwindling community tank, and therefore has a fully cycled FW filter. His old tank is at 1.006, and needs to be dropped to 1.005 for a fig 8.

I'm thinking up the new tank to 1.002, which shouldn't hurt the filter, acclimatise Mushroom to that over a day, then begin weekly w/cs to up it to the target of 1.018. Or is there a way I can match the salinitys without killing the bacteria that doesn't involve moving the old filter, which needs to stay put?

For the other tank, I'm thinking find that fab article on here somewhere and work out what salinity I'd need to do a w/c with the get it down to 1.005.


Can someone just tell me if I'm doing the right thing before I get started on this little endeavour pls!

can you not move the community to the tank with he lower SG, move mushroom and start raising the SG on that on?

To make it the least stressful for Mushroom, who is currently at 1.006, I'd either slowly, .002 a week, raise the salinity of his target tank to match his salinity, and then move him. Or raise the salinity, move the filter and decor, move the Mushroom. After 6 weeks, move the filter and decor back to his old tank for the figure 8.
Mushroom is a very delicate species, and you've done well so far. Do what is the least amount of stress and change for him, even if it means the Figure 8 has to wait. Don't compromise his welfare over a fish (I'm assuming) you don't have yet.

um...there's the problem. I have the fig 8. They are so hard to find where I am that I snapped him up as soon as I saw him! He's being babysat in a tank that's no good long term, but it should serve as QT. Ideally I didn't want to stretch to 6wks in there though.
Me and my big ideas!! That does sound more sensible tbh. I think I'm just worrying myself too much.

Ooh, half-fishless cycling the big tanks filter whilst raising the salinity? Would that work? That would be quicker.
