Re: Future GSP setup!
Here's a pretty thorough article: http://www.reefland.com/forum/saltwater ... arium.html
I have that stripped down basic setup, no high nitrates, no giant water changes.

Okie dokie then. That is what I will do. Next thing on the do to list is to grab the substrate. After I get the tank cleaned up a bit more, more because I am super picky about stuff like that than anything else. The tank and the stand could use some tlc, just to make it look better...
Getting a $100 amazon gift card from work for a referral bonus, guess I will get my koralias there hehehe. Going to look on CL after the next paycheck for LR. Hopefully I will have a full tank by this time next week. =)

Remember the liverock will have some die off, monitor your levels, and don't rush anything. You can't go back and fix mistakes, but you can be careful, thorough, and patient and avoid them.

Thanks I will! I plan on having things perfect before I bring this little guy home. LFS said that they could order GSP's that are already in marine as well, so I don't have to acclimate over 8-9 hours ^.^ (fingers crossed LOL)
This is definitely my pet project, and I can't wait. Gotta figure out the lighting, because I have this cool light thing, but it doesn't allow the back piece of the glass canopy to sit on the tank..../scratches head, but it was better than the other POS he tried to sell with it (I think he kept the newer one for one of his tanks LOL). Can't beat $30 though. All together, the cost was $165. For the light set up and the tank. Can't wait!

Re: Future GSP setup!
Not the greatest pic in the world but here it is:
http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... 8ZPB3-A-LB
http://denzil.smugmug.com/Pets/Puffers/ ... VTSXZ-A-LB
So, I was really iffy about the stand. After spending about ten minutes on it, now I am not so iffy. It's been a super good find IMO. It's real wood-- thing weighs almost as much as the tank. It needs a little wood oil for where it got dinged up a bit, but I was impressed. And it was made for the tank, so I can't really complain. The more I get to know about this tank, the more I like it. Had no idea it was a 55 gallon show, so that's kind of dissapointing, but other than that, I'm glad that I got it. =)
Also, what is a good way to get algae off the inside seams of the tank? Any suggestions? I let vinegar sit in it for about an hour and a half, but it's still there. I guess it shouldn't matter, but I wanted to ask =)

Re: New GSP Setup!
Oxiclean works great to clean up the inside of the tank, vinegar works good too.
Whats the difference between a regular and a show tank?

Re: New GSP Setup!
Darn, didn't think about oxiclean, but I did put vinegar in it and let it sit. As for the show tank vs regular, I don't know. Taller maybe? The guy sold it as a 65, but when I went in to the LFS talking about it, he said according to the dimensions, it was a 55 gallon show. 48 x 13.5 x 21.5, roughly 60.311 gallons? That's as far as my knowledge goes LoLxrayjeeper83 wrote:Oxiclean works great to clean up the inside of the tank, vinegar works good too.

Think the oxiclean will get the algae out of the seams?

Re: New GSP Setup!
Hey seven, for Balki's new tank, did you buy anymore test kits? I was going thru that article you linked me and it said something about doing an additional three tests. Just wanted to see if you are doing that. =)

Re: New GSP Setup!
I didn't buy any additional tests for Balki's tank. But I have ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, KH, pH, High pH, GH, phosphate, and calcium tests.

Holy moly. Guess I should buy the additional tests then. I only have ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph = /

Re: New GSP Setup!
Most of those tests are for my planted tank, what 3 additional tests did the article say you needed?
I only test calcium occasionally, and nitrates.

I do test KH (alkalinity) too, I forgot that one, but I don't have a magnesium test.

Re: New GSP Setup!
Bummer. And I thought I was done spending money to get maintenance stuff for my tanks...ahahaha. I will just have to order it. I plan on getting everything before anything goes into the tank. Denzil said we could even go get 2-4 more buckets and lids so for the first fill up, we can get already made saltwater from Petco. The last thing that I will get will be the saltwater. =)
