Moving GSP to it's own tank

So I finally got an additional tank setup tonight, 30 gallon: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... lmdn=Brand
I was hoping for something taller than longer, but this will work.

Found a very nice 3D coral arrangement to add into it, set everything all up as well as letting it cycle over night with the new filter. Tomorrow I will drain some water from the existing tank to add in. I originally wanted to do this from the start but I'm having an odd unexplained ammonia spike at the moment and just did a water change this afternoon. I am assuming it might just be my Bio Stone running through the ammonia to nitrate cycle, everyone seems to be acting fine though.

I got the little bugger to eat from my turkey baster lastnight, pretty cool if you ask me and now each time i stop by to take a look he turns bright green and starts swimming up and down, like hoping it's feeding time.

I will report back sometime Sunday with readings, should be ok by then to add him in and start the salt process sometime next week.

Longer is much better than taller. They need the footprint more than the height, and the tall tanks seem to promote pacing.

Ok good, I contemplated back and forth between that one and a 36 gallon tall half moon tank, glad I made the good choice.
I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow, I'm actually kind of proud of the arrangement I found to keep it content with, and later on down the road the air stone is already connected.

I'm still fighting with my water today, i spoke with a neighbor who has worked in the aquarium and fish industry all his life and he gave me a few ideas as to why the water ammonia keeps spiking. As well as when i got home from a long day of running around the water is super cloudy, if it's not better in the morning I'm going to try another partial water change. I'm a little lost as to what is going on with it the past few days.
Plus, my breeder snails are dying off left and right, not a good week.

Do you have a KH test?
Have you checked your tap water for ammonia?
If your KH is low, it's harder for the bacteria to establish.
What is the pH of the tank and the snail tank?
If there isn't sufficient KH, the pH may be low, I've read that low pH and KH will cause snail deaths, something about the shells becoming too brittle.

I had to do 50% tap, 50% from my other tank because the 75 gallon just up and decided it wanted to start the cycle process all over again. I am assuming because of the ick outbreak and medication used, so would it be advised to wait a little longer before starting the brackish transition, or go ahead with .02 a week?
