this is pretty much the only thing i have ever looked at on MFK since i came here. i really wanted to set this up, but i dont have any tanks anymore so i cant. can be used for fresh or saltwater and seems pretty easy to set up. gives instructions on how to incorporate into your sump/refugium or just a direct link to the tank as its own

OMG, you're totally not a bad dad! They just need to be below 20, or maybe even 10.jus85411 wrote:see i was never able to get it down past 5... maybe it came down to water source too. either that or i was just a bad dadsevenyearnight wrote:I consider myself an average hobbyist, and Balki's FOWLR , no sump or refugium setup consistently had undetectable nitrates. I know the test works because it picks up nitrates from the other tanks.
I honestly don't know why it doesn't register. It's my only tank that doesn't read nitrates. I would assume with a puffer it would.

edit: ok for some reason some posts didn't show up, maybe I was on the wrong page, or we might have posted at the same time. My bad
So I will refrain from getting rid of my snails in my ten gallon tank(snail infested planted tank), and may possibly feed more to encourage snail growth. I'll make sure I freeze any seafood before feeding, and worms are a definite yes? I keep axolotls at home, so I'll always have a constant source of worms if those are an acceptable diet as well. So just to make sure, a diet of earthworms, frozen bloodworms, and freshwater snails are acceptable? I'll make sure to freeze any seafood before feeding.
Also: last year I actually tried to make an algae turf scrubber with the person who was previously in charge on the running tank. An epic fail on my part, we didn't have enough space above the sump to have the lightbulbs outside of the sump, and quickly realized that if the power went out we'd have fried fish.
