Moving?

I am not moving right now, but after I started to think about my future GSP set up with all the LR in it, I began to ask myself-- what happens to all my tanks and what not if I have to move?

I can see where moving 10 minutes across town wouldn't be a problem (at least I don't think) but what happens when the drive is 1+ hours? For grins and giggles, what do you even do moving across town? I was thinking of it almost like doing an 80% wc...drain the tank, put the tank in the car, and go SLOWLY to the new place LoL, but I don't have any idea. I didn't think I could do that with LR anyways, not unless I knew I had cemented it together or something, and even then, it would be tempting fate to leave the GSP in there. So, just because it's bugging me, and I want to be prepared for any eventuality (I am in an apartment therefore, as much as I like it here, I do want my own house [more tanks! LOL]), I wanted to know what you all thought =)

don't sweat it.

Keep everything wet, and the tank just about empty.

Set it up as it was before. No problem. The hard part is the tank, not the livestock. Things bump and move during the drive. You want the tank well protected and everything out so it doesn't break the glass.

cut a piece of 3/4" plywood the same dimensions as the bottom of the tank and securely tape the tank to the plywood, thereby making a supportive "pallet" to carry & transport it on
i transported my 4 tanks & fish 425 miles last spring

Since I got my S&S I have been wondering the same thing. If I have to move and Benji is 7 or 8" in length how would I go about transporting him? That plywood idea is amazing! Especially since I just got my 180 gallon for Benji yesterday

I am also planning to move, I will do so in summer so all is warmer, I am gonna purchase new tanks to set in place first, set them up and move some filters early and move the fish later. Not looking forward to it but will give me more free tanks yay

LMAO-- that's the way to do it, a good excuse to get more tanks too hehhehehehe

And the plywood thing is an awesome idea! Thanks all for the advice. I know we are staying in our apartment for another year, but once Jan 2013 rolls around, who knows? Hopefully we will be thinking about getting a house ^.^

Moving has lost its excitement for me, done it too many times. Nextt time i move properties i will buy. I need at least £200,000 to get a small house or closer to £250,000 for the minimum size property i would settle for. I am saving hard as i want this to be my last move ever. Also a great idea for 5 more fish tanks lol

+1 I am sick of moving. Went from my mom's to my friends, back to my mom's, then to my dad's (we had a nasty falling out), to another friend's house, and finally to our apartment. I also lost my job during that time span-- some of the darkest days of my life. My bf was there though, kept telling me that everything would fall into place and start coming together. And sure enough, that avalanche that we had so waited for happened: we moved, I got another job, he got two raises, we got our debt down, got another dog and now here I am setting up a few fish tanks and excelling in school, graduating in about 2 years. Been the best year I think I have had in the last 8 years or so.

I hate moving with a passion: I was subject to it so much as a kid. Now we are working on saving up some money to put a down payment on a house (hopefully with some property, been a long time dream of mine to own a horse) while the housing market is still buyer friendly. It won't be for a while yet, but as of right now, things are looking decent.

Good luck Bertie! it will be super rewarding when you can say that you own your own place and have as many tanks as you want! ^.^

I will never have as many tanks as i would like lol. I will buy a good house and set up as i am then build a big extension on the back as a fish room. Keep the tanks i have in the main living area and have masses more out in the fish room. I will be completed in about 2 years, maybe 3

LoL make sure to post pics! =D Cause that sounds super awesome. It was always a dream of mine, when I was little, to own a house with rooms decorated around the elements. Have a fire, earth, air and water room. In the water room I always wanted to have the walls be one huge beautiful tank full of fish and rock and corals. It's a beautiful idea, but can you imagine the upkeep and water changes??? LOL

I'm so glad this question was asked! My lease has got not quite a year to go on it, and I may renew since I really like it here, but I'm definitely not going to be in this apartment forever. Or in this state. The fiance's in the navy, soo.. yeah. Moving Lola has been a worry in my head for awhile.

I actually love moving, my dad was a marine for 22 years and it was awesome ;P I get itchy feet if i stay in one place too long. So I'm excited about the navy career, minus moving a fish tank/inability to horde fish tanks. yes, i have come down with this disease too... i have been demanding a fahaka. i somehow don't see it as making sense for a long, long time though u__u

thought about it because of your other thread...the hypothetically being gone one. I have to think about these two things alot: I am leaving for 3 weeks next summer, possibly 4, and I don't know if the rent will be cheap enough to stay through 2013. We pay $1310 right now and we expect to pay $1500 after Jan 2012 ><

I wish one of you guys lived close enough to me here in Campbell. I would totally pay someone to come to my house every day and take care of my aquatic babies. I have a friend that loves her fish, and is not shy to change the water and what not, so I am going figure out a way to make water changes as easy as possible. But still, I worry about my little pugs. (I call them pugs haha)
