HUGE Live Crabs for Food!!! Help!

Hi All,

So my GSP (now 4") has been tiring of his mussels, so off to the seafood market I went...

and now have 4 HUGE + LIVE crabs (about 5" around not including claws).

Question: What do I do now?

Do I throw them in the freezer?

* Don't want to put them in the tank cuz they are real big*

What is the best way to prepare Live Crabs as puffer food?

Any ideas would be great!!!

Yes break them up into meal size portions freeze, thaw and feed away

Um... do I need to chop them up 1st? (I'm not used to killing live things with my bare hands... kinda feel bad ).

Or can I freeze them and THEN chop them when the are dead?

No, I'd freeze them 1st. They'll be easier (& less messier) to saw them up with a saw or serrated knife, after frozen.

Yep would be much easier to cut up frozen then fresh

i have always done the deal first. It leaves little meaty bits hanging out to get them worked up before the crunch. Its all down to personal choice.

Any idea how long I should freeze them for (to make sure bacteria is killed: and also the crabs ) ?

Overnight should be sufficient.

It depends on your freezer. if 4 star overnight is fine if less give 24hrs plus
